Addison's Disease Addison's disease or hypo-adreno-corticism is when there is a deficiency of hormones produced by the adrenal glands. The adrenal gland is underactive. This can be caused by many problems including an immune-mediated problem, tumors and also drug use especially following long-term use of corticosteroid drugs. Depending upon the underlying cause, it can usually be managed well with conventional medicine by replacing the hormones that the adrenal gland can no longer produce. However, there are some specific things you can do to support your pet if he is being treated for this condition:

Cushing's Syndrome This condition is almost the opposite of Addison’s Disease, and occurs where the adrenal gland is over-active. Immune suppression, tumors or excessive use of corticosteroid drugs may cause Cushing's Syndrome. Lifelong therapy is usually needed and sometimes surgery is required too.
